Former Australian cricketer Mathew Hayden has raised concerns over the role of Ms Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu in the team for IPL 2023. He said that Chennai Super Kings is kind of dad’s army he’s afraid that they might turn out to be a decline for the team with their age.

We are just a few sleeps away from the IPL 2023. The marquee tournament will kick start from 31st March with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi International Stadium.
CSK have kick started the preparations in full flow as all the members of the team are putting in the hard yards and are leaving no stone unturned in the net sessions. The MS Dhoni-led side would want to turn things around this time and win their fifth title.

Chennai Super Kings had a horrible campaign last season. They finished 9th on the points table and were the second team to get eliminated from the team. It’s fair to say that since the last few seasons they have invested more in experienced players than the youngsters whereas teams did the other way.
Their strategy backfired last season and has raised many concerns over the same. They, however, this time brought Ben Stokes, Nishant Sindhu and others. It remains to be seen who will they fare in this season.

However, Matthew Hayden feels that having many aged players can also prove out to be a decline for them. He raised concerns over the role of MS Dhoni and Ambati Rayudu in the team. He elaborated:

“They have had this for a little is that they’re kind of a Dad’s Army – a tagline that they seem to have received. This year is a little bit the same as well. MS Dhoni is of an age like Ambati Rayudu where they need to be key players, not just have the potential as team leaders. So those two key players in particular, with that age of their side, will it be experienced, or will it be a decline of CSK?”
It remains to be seen what combination will the CSK play this time around. They would be hoping to kickstart the tournament on high.
