KKR will be disappointed that there is a Mega Auction before IPL 2025. They have no choice but to disturb their successful combination. However, they could still take some bold calls to emulate their success in IPL 2025. This way, the franchise can devise a strategy that will help them move forward in the league. Here, we take a look at the list of three bold retention calls KKR could take before IPL 2025.

1) Retain Harshit Rana

It needs to be noted that Harshit Rana is very close to making his international debut. If that happens, he does not qualify as an uncapped player. Hence, KKR will have to spend extra money to retain him.

Even if that happens, considering Harshit’s skillsets, he deserves to be retained. He is just 22 and will only get better. If he works on his batting skills, he can be of unreal value to the side.

2) Release Andre Russell

Releasing Andre Russell is one of the bold retention calls KKR could take before IPL 2025. Barring a few matches, Russell did not step up with the bat. However, throughout IPL 2024, he was decent with the ball.

Considering his fitness history and the declining form, KKR could consider releasing the big man. They could target to get him back at a lower fee. Instead, KKR could retain some of the young Indian stars, who shall offer more value in the long run.

3) Retain Phil Salt

Yes, it has just been one season but Phil Salt delivered massively for KKR in IPL 2024. It could be hard to retain him but if he goes under the hammer, many teams will look to buy the Englishman.

He is fairly young, a solid wicket-keeper and an aggressive opening batter. It could be hard to get such a player in the current market. Hence, KKR could consider his retention ahead of someone like Andre Russell.
