The countdown has started for IPL 2023. The tournament will begin on March 31st. In India, IPL 2023 will be streamed on Jio Cinema while the TV telecasts will happen on Star Sports. Earlier, Star held the rights for both TV and digital. However, they now have only TV rights. Hence, they are looking to maximise their reach by including more channels for IPL 2023. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Star Sports is all set to telecast IPL 2023 on more than 22 channels.
Star Sports has the TV rights for IPL right now
Till now, Star Sports had the rights for both TV and digital. However, for the next cycle, the group will only have the rights for TV. On the other hand, the Viacom 18 group has made an aggressive decision by announcing that IPL 2023 will be streamed for free. The group has also added many new features to the application and has even hired some top commentators. Fans are already enjoying the telecast of the Women’s Premier League.
In this regard, Star had to do something different. Hence, they have decided to expand their reach and have even announced a few new channels. For the masses in India, TV is still the main mode of entertainment consumption. However, digital is slowly catching up and it won’t be long before the impact of TV reduces. Star is doing good promotion on TV and the media giant will hopefully deliver a good service to the viewers.
Twitter reacts to the decision by Star
With the competition surrounding it, it is surely an aggressive and risky move by the Star Group. However, the base for TV consumers is anyways still higher than OTT in India. Therefore, there were conflicting opinions on the internet. We take a look at some of the reactions in the below segment:

Video streaming will always be a challenge for viewers because one needs a fast and stable Internet connection to watch live sports seamlessly, which, unfortunately, not everyone may have.
