“What a decline,” twitter reacts in disbelief as Virat Kohli slips down to no. 7 in ICC test rankings

Virat Kohli has been overtaken by the Australian opener David Warner in the latest ICC test rankings

The batting form of Virat Kohli in Test cricket has been a matter of concern in the last couple of years, and it’s now starting to reflect on ICC test rankings as well. In the latest batting rankings released by ICC for test match cricket, Virat Kohli has slipped down to no. 7.

The other three members of the fab 4, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson, are in the top 5 in the rankings, while the Australian top-order batsman Marnus Labuschagne has now become the no. 1 test batsman in the world with a match-winning hundred in the recently played Adelaide test against England.

The Indian vice-captain Rohit Sharma has maintained his no. 5 position in the ICC test rankings despite not playing any test match after the England tour. Virat Kohli, on the other hand, recently played a test match against New Zealand in Mumbai where he scored a duck in the first innings and got dismissed for 36 in the second innings, despite looking in good touch.

Kohli was occupying the 6th position in the last ICC test rankings, but he has now been overtaken by the Australian opening batsman David Warner, who recently registered two scores of 90 odd to his name in the first two matches of the ongoing Ashes series.

Aussie’s batsmen occupy four positions in the top 10 of ICC test rankings

The Australian middle-order batsman Travis Head has also climbed up the rankings with a hundred in the Gabba test against England and a fifty at Adelaide, and he now occupies the no. 10 position.

Australia has four batsmen in the top 10 now, while India has got two. The remaining four positions have been occupied by a batsman each from England (Joe Root), New Zealand (Kane Williamson), Sri Lanka (Dimuth Karunaratne) and Pakistan (Babar Azam).

The Indian fans were a little disheartened on Twitter today after the latest rankings were released, as they found it hard to accept that Virat Kohli is now the 7th ranked test batsman in the world. It can, however, change in India’s upcoming Test series against South Africa, where a couple of hundreds might get Kohli back into the top 5.

The Indian captain has been practising hard since he has landed in South Africa, as he is well aware of the fact that his contribution with the bat will be essential if India has to win their first-ever test series in South Africa.

Here is how the Indian fans reacted on Twitter as Kohli slipped further down in the ICC test rankings –

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
