The reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunther has become one of the fastest rising Superstars on the main roster. Imperium’s leader has completely rejuvenated himself since his days on NXT UK. Now, he has decided to respond on the rumors of battling John Cena at WrestleMania 39.
The Ring General started his WWE career in NXT UK, reigning as the record-breaking World Champion of the brand. He moved on to the main NXT brand for a while and made his main roster debut on SmackDown in April 2022. Since then, he has some of most stellar in-ring performances. Gunther defeated Ricochet in June 2022 to capture the workhorse title. His in-ring work and credibility as a performer was cemented at WWE Clash at the Castle.
Gunther fought the Celtic Warrior Sheamus in a high stakes showdown in Cardiff, Wales. This match was well praised by the fans and earned a 5-star rating by Dave Meltzer. Most recently, he picked up a huge win over another WWE Legend, Rey Mysterio on an episode of SmackDown, retaining his championship in the process.

Gunther appeared on the Steve Fall’s Ten Count to discuss a lot of topics. He was asked about a potential showdown with the Cenation Leader John Cena. Furthermore, the Intercontinental Champion stated that a match with the 16-time World Champion would be something he would love to do.
“Of course, we could see it. I don’t know what’s going to happen or if it’s going to happen. Obviously, that’s something I would love to do. Because he’s not really active at the moment anymore, he just pops up, but when he does, if the chance is there for me, I’ll gladly take it.”

John Cena is currently rumored to face Austin Theory at WrestleMania 39. Therefore, a change of creative direction could see The Ring General battle Mr. Hustle Loyalty and Respect in a marquee match.
