Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni gave a detailed explanation as to why the team management decided to change the captain of the franchise midway during IPL 2022. For the first time in Indian Premier League history, the Chennai-based franchise decided to change their captain midway during a season owing to non-injury reasons. Dhoni took over the captaincy back from Ravindra Jadeja.
Dhoni made a glorious return to captaincy as the Chennai Super Kings won their third game of IPL 2022 by defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The wicket-keeper batter won everyone’s heart with his captaincy. Ravindra Jadeja tried his best as a captain, but the additional pressure impacted his personal performances as an all-rounder as well.
Speaking at the post-match presentation yesterday after the game between the Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, MS Dhoni explained the thought process behind taking over the reins of the team from Ravindra Jadeja. Here’s what he had to say:
“I felt it was having an impact on his game. I would love to have Jadeja as a bowler, a batter and a fielder. Captainship, fair enough; even if you are relieved of captainship and if you are at your best that’s what I really want because we are also losing a great deep mid-wicket fielder.”
MS Dhoni may groom Ravindra Jadeja under his captaincy for the upcoming seasons
While Dhoni has taken back the captaincy for IPL 2022, it is possible that he may hand back the duties to Ravindra Jadeja for the 2023 season. The reason behind it is that Dhoni does not play cricket regularly now. Also, the age factor does not favor him.
If Dhoni prefers to continue as the captain of CSK for the next season, it will be great for everyone, but considering the age factor, CSK fans will hope that someone else is groomed as the captain.
