Watch: Marcus Stoinis seems to raise doubts over the bowling action of Mohammad Hasnain after getting dismissed in The Hundred

The bowling action of Mohammad Hasnain has been reported once before while he was playing in the Big Bash League (BBL)

The Australian allrounder Marcus Stoinis is currently playing in the Hundred and he did something yesterday which didn’t amuse a lot of people at all, even though it was a hand gesture and nothing verbal. Stoinis was playing for Southern Brave in The Hundred tournament in England and he was up against Oval Invincible’s Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain who ended up dismissing him.

When Marcus Stoinis was returning to the pavilion, he was clearly unhappy which is a normal sight with any batsman after getting dismissed, but Stoinis also gestured with his hands as if he thought Hasnain’s bowling action was illegal and he chucked the ball to get him out.

Hasnain is someone whose bowling action has been reported before while he was playing in the Big Bash League (BBL). The PCB, thereafter, asked the young right arm seamer to withdraw from the PSL and work on his bowling action to remodel it. Hasnain made subtle changes to his bowling action and got it cleared by the ICC to resume playing.

But, Marcus Stoinis has now put a question mark over his action again. It, however, wouldn’t have any significance if the umpires don’t report the bowling action of Hasnain because it comes under the jurisdiction of on-field umpires to decide if the bowler is delivering the ball within the legal parameters or not.

A lot of people didn’t like the hand gesture of Marcus Stoinis

A lot of journalists and the Pakistan fans, in particular, were not happy at all with the hand gesture of Marcus Stoinis as they thought he was going out of his way to do something that’s not his job. It’s the job of the umpires and not the job of the players to raise doubts over the bowling action of an opposition player.

Interestingly, Hasnain’s bowling action had first come under the scanner after another Australian allrounder Moises Henriques had raised doubts over it a few months back. It remains to be seen what future course of action the match officials take in this case.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
