“Wasn’t Treated Properly So I Said Okay That’s It!”- Chris Gayle Reveals The Real Reason Behind Not Playing IPL 2022

The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is underway right now in India, with 10 franchises playing against each other to win the coveted trophy. One of the biggest T20 players in the world – Chris Gayle is not a part of the ongoing tournament though. The Universe Boss, who has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings in the IPL, skipped IPL 2022.

In a recent media appearance during the promotion of the Cricket All-Rounders App in London, Gayle said that he was not treated properly in the last two seasons of the league. As a result, he decided against registering himself for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction.

Gayle played for the Mohali-based franchise in the last two seasons. Normally, he plays as an opener in T20 cricket, but the Punjab Kings used Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul as their openers, with Gayle batting at either number three or number four.

Explaining his decision to not register himself for the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Gayle was quoted as saying as follows by Mirror:

“For the last couple of years, the way the IPL went about, I felt like I wasn’t treated properly. So I thought ‘okay, you (Gayle) didn’t get the respect you deserved after you did so much for the sport and IPL.’ So I said ‘okay, that’s it, I’m not going to bother to enter the draft,’ so I left it as it is.”
