Virender Sehwag reckons it will be an absolute delight for the Indian fans to have the former Indian captain MS Dhoni back on the field again in the upcoming IPL 2020.
This is the first time Dhoni will take the field at the professional level since his infamous run out in the semi-final match of the ODI World Cup 2019 against New Zealand.
That sadly turned out to be Dhoni’s last game at the international level as he announced his international retirement last month. However, the charismatic wicket-keeper batsman will continue to play in the IPL.
According to Sehwag, apart from Dhoni’s return, the fact that live cricket is back again is itself going to be a huge relief for the Indian fans as they have been deprived of cricket for a very long time now.
“I think this tourn ament will be extra special for everyone – the players as well as the audience…watching Dhoni back on the pitch is sure to be a delight,” Sehwag was quoted as saying by Times of India
Live international cricket resumed a couple of months back with the English cricketing summer getting underway, but the Indian players were still quarantining as no cricket had been happening in India at all because of a surge in the COVID cases.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) eventually decided to organize IPL 2020 in UAE and it’s all set to get underway this Saturday with Chennai Super Kings and the reigning champions Mumbai Indians taking each other on in the opening game in Abu Dhabi.
Sehwag is himself quite excited about the IPL like any other Indian fan. The former Indian opener, who has got two triple centuries to his name in international cricket, revealed that he used to watch the videos of the old cricket matches during the lockdown and used to do his own analysis at home.
Sehwag is currently not associated with any IPL team, but he has been a part of the Kings XI Punjab coaching set-up in the past.
