The Indian cricket team’s failure to qualify for Asia Cup 2022 Final and T20 World Cup 2022 Final has hurt the BCCI officials a lot. They called for a serious meeting on the first day of the new year itself and made some big decisions.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the board has now shortlisted 20 players who will be prepared for the 2023 World Cup in India. The 50-over World Cup will take place in India for the first time since 2011, and the board is quite serious about the Indian cricket team’s preparation.
Last year, the Indian T20I team underwent significant changes on the road to the World Cup and Asia Cup. During one series or other, one of the main players was either injured or was taking rest. It is hard to remember a T20I match from 2022 where all the main players of the Indian team played together in the playing XI.
To ensure that the same does not repeat in 2023, BCCI has shortened the player pool to just 20 instead of 25 or 30. These 20 players will play in the upcoming ODI matches at home and away from home to prepare for the 2023 World Cup. The list of players has not been revealed, but here’s what Cricbuzz reported:
“It was a very constructive and fruitful meeting where we have reviewed the past performance and planned for the future events, including World Cup and World Test Championship (WTC). We will give preference for international cricket while making sure the IPL is not diluted,” a BCCI source said.

Credit to @BCCI for chucking the bluff called workload management out of the window. You can skip IPL games if need be but not India games just because you need a break.

The BCCI review meeting is over, and it has been decided that IPL franchises will now have to work in tandem with the NCA to monitor the fitness of the players participating in the IPL. Yo-yo tests also return and for emerging players, domestic cricket is a must.
