Venkatesh Iyer Reveals The Reason Why He Switched To Left Hander From Right Hander

Kolkata Knight Riders opener Venkatesh Iyer has become very famous this week because of his spectacular performances in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. Iyer has played only two matches so far but the left-handed batsman has played a crucial role for his team. The Kolkata Knight Riders have emerged victorious in both games that Iyer has played so far in his career.

Iyer, who plays for the Madhya Pradesh cricket team in the domestic circuit, made his Indian Premier League debut for the Kolkata Knight Riders on September 20, 2021 against the Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore. Although the Knight Riders had Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana in their squad, the team management decided to send Venkatesh to open the innings along with Shubman Gill.

Venkatesh Iyer has scored 94 runs in his two Indian Premier League innings so far

Venkatesh Iyer played a solid knock of 41 runs on his Indian Premier League debut against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. While one can say that the youngster might not have been under so much pressure because of the lower target, Iyer proved his doubters wrong with a magnificent fifty in the following game against the Mumbai Indians.

He had a wonderful partnership with Rahul Tripathi for the second wicket as the Kolkata Knight Riders snapped their losing streak in Indian Premier League matches against the Mumbai Indians.

I used to bat right-handed when I was very young but I wanted to exactly replicate Dada: Venkatesh Iyer

Soon after the match against the Mumbai Indians, Venkatesh Iyer spoke with his teammate Rahul Tripathi in a video that was released on IPLT20.com. In that brief chat, Iyer revealed the reason why he became a left-handed batter.

“I used to bat right-handed when I was very young but I wanted to exactly replicate Dada, how he hit sixes and the way he batted. He has played a very big role unknowingly in my life. I was really waiting for my opportunity and I knew I am going to get my chance,” Iyer said.
