The happiness of the family of Umran Malik family knows no bounds as their son has made his debut in the IPL recently and has been impressing everyone with his speeds. Umran comes from a very modest background in Jammu & Kashmir, and he is currently only the second Kashmiri cricketer to be playing in the IPL.
Umran Malik bowled a match-winning spell last night in the game against a high-profile team like RCB with players like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell. Although Umran didn’t get the chance to bowl to the Indian captain Virat Kohli, he did bowl to Maxwell and De Villiers and didn’t let them get on top of him at any stage. He regularly touched the 150 kph mark right through his spell and kept every batsman on his toes.
“It is not an ordinary achievement for us. We are from a poor family. I sell vegetables and fruits to make a living. My son has made me proud. Our joy knows no bounds. Even Lt Governor Sahib has congratulated us. I pray to Almighty that my son continues to excel in his career”, Umran’s dad was quoted as saying by India Today.
Umran Malik’s Kashmiri teammate Abdul Samad also plays for SRH
Interestingly, another Kashmir player apart from Umran, who is playing in the IPL is Abdul Samad, and he is playing for the same team as Umran. Both these youngsters were picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad from the trials that the franchise had organised to sign the domestic Indian players.
Samad actually has far more experience of playing domestic cricket as compared to Umran who has only played a List A and a T20 game ahead of playing in the IPL. Because of his lack of experience, Umran was actually a net bowler for SRH to start with, but he was included in the squad after SRH lost the services of T Natarajan temporarily because of coronavirus.
Now that Umran has grabbed his opportunities, it’s very likely that the other franchises will have an eye on him, and he might get a decent contract in the next mega auction.
