It has been an unexpected start so far in the fifteenth edition of the IPL. The two most successful franchises in the tournament – Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have lost four consecutive games till now. After the IPL 2022 Auctions concluded, although they did not have a splendid squad, fans expected them to do well because of the experience and the pedigree of the teams. However, that has not happened so far. While CSK has suffered defeats to Kolkata, Lucknow, Punjab and Hyderabad, the Mumbai Indians have found themselves on the losing end against Delhi, Rajasthan, Kolkata and Bangalore.
Both teams have been affected by the unavailability of key players. While CSK missed Moeen Ali for the first game, they still do not have Deepak Chahar. MI, on the other hand, did not have the services of Suryakumar Yadav for the first two encounters. That said, the major reason for the failure is the lack of consistent performance. The management must also receive some flak for not forming a convincing playing XI. Each team still has 10 games to go in the league stage. It will be interesting how they will go about their trade.
