When Arjun Tendulkar came up for sale in the IPL mega auction yesterday, it was well known that Mumbai Indians were going to be the only franchise that would bid for him, but everyone was surprised when another franchise jumped into the race as well.
Arjun Tendulkar, the son of the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, had listed himself at a base price of 20 Lakh INR and just as his name was announced, Mumbai Indians placed a bid for the base price which was 20 Lakh, but they were surprised to see that Gujarat Titans placed a further bid after that and raised the bidding to 25 Lakh INR.
The management of Mumbai Indians couldn’t believe that there was another bid for Arjun and they then had to go for the third bid which took the price tag of the player to 30 Lakh INR. Gujarat Titans, however, didn’t place any further bid after that and Mumbai were able to buy Arjun.
The Indian fans on twitter had a chuckle at the whole process of that because it was almost a given that Arjun’s name would be brought up during the last round of the accelerated auction on the second day and it was also known that Mumbai Indians would place a bid.
Despite knowing everything well in advance, for Gujarat Titans to still jump in and increase the player’s price tag with probably no intention of buying the player at all, it just looked extremely funny to everyone, not just in the auction room itself, but for all the Indian fans watching it on TV and internet.
This will be the second IPL season for Arjun Tendulkar
There were a lot of reactions on twitter after Arjun Tendulkar was sold again to Mumbai Indians. He was a part of the Mumbai squad for the last season of the IPL too, but could not get any games there.
Here is how twitter reacted after Mumbai bought Arjun for the second year in a row –

You legends Gujarat Titans! They did what I had been talking about with my friends for the last two days.
MI were always going to go for Arjun Tendulkar & I'd have intentionally raised the stakes to mess up with MI and forced them to pay more than 20L.😂#IPLMegaAuction2022

The most competitive bid was for Arjun Tendulkar. Between Mumbai Indians & Gujarat Titans.
Maybe just to show both states were part of the same one in the distant past
