The big match that is being played today in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League is the one between three-time IPL Champions Chennai Super Kings and three-time IPL Runners-up Royal Challengers Bangalore. Both CSK and RCB are very near to securing a berth in the playoffs of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League.
CSK are currently second on the IPL 2021 standings with 12 points to their name from eight matches and RCB are right behind them with 10 points in their kitty. Both CSK and RCB had contrasting starts to their campaign in the United Arab Emirates leg of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. While CSK recorded a 20-run win against the two-time defending champions of the Indian Premier League, Mumbai Indians, RCB suffered a crushing defeat against the two-time champions of the Indian Premier League, Kolkata Knight Riders.
Match between CSK and RCB started late because of a sandstorm
While rain interruptions in cricket matches are very rare in the United Arab Emirates, the sandstorm forced the organizers to delay the start of the IPL 2021 reverse fixture between the Chennai Super Kings and the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The toss of IPL 2021 matches generally happens at 7:00 PM IST. However, because of the sandstorm in Sharjah, the toss for this game happened at 7:30 PM IST, which is generally the start time of the Indian Premier League matches. The first ball of the match was bowled at 7:45 PM IST. The Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and invited Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore to have a bat first.
Twitter recollects 1998 memories after sandstorm in Sharjah
Many fans on Twitter remembered the 1998 desert storm and the way Sachin Tendulkar dominated the bowlers.
A sand storm was also seen during the IPL 2021 match between RCB and DC earlier this year. Here are some of the top Twitter reactions:
"Toss delayed by ten minutes due to storm at Sharjah".
Sachin Tendulkar once told he usually doesn't do comparsons but his Desert Storm knock at Sharjah might be as impactful for India as VVS Laxman's 281. Today is exactly 281 months since that Desert Storm knock.#IPL2021
