The Zimbabwe cricket team beat Australia in an ODI today only for the third time in their history and after a gap of 8 long years. Zimbabwe, which is currently in Australia for a 3-match ODI series, had lost the first two games of the series, but today in the third ODI, they bowled first and managed to dismiss the Kangaroos at a modest total of just 141.
Out of that 141, the Australian opener David Warner scored 90 odd runs all alone. The other Aussie batsmen just couldn’t handle the part-time leg-spin bowling of Ryan Burl who, in just 3 overs of bowling, sent 5 Aussie batsmen to the pavilion and registered his best figures ever in ODI cricket.
This victory is special for the Zimbabwe cricket team because the last two ODI victories that they had secured over Australia, they had done that away from Australia and they had never beaten the Aussies at home. But, this time around, they got better of the Aussies in their own backyard.
Before this series started, hardly anyone had given Zimbabwe cricket team a chance to win a game in the series, as they had just lost by 0-3 against a second string Indian side back home in Zimbabwe and they were going to play a full strength Australian side in Australia.
Zimbabwe cricket team performed much better against full strength Australia than second string Indian team
But, as it turned out, Zimbabwe per formed much better against a full-strength Australian side as opposed to how they performed against the second-string Indian team.
As far as Ryan Burl is concerned, his leg spin bowling had troubled Australia in the first ODI as well, where he had got a three-wicket haul, but Zimbabwe were not defending a big target in that game. However, in the third ODI, Burl ensured that his leg spin made a massive influence and he eventually ended up winning the game for Zimbabwe.
Here are some of the Twitter reactions after Zimbabwe beat Australia in Australia for the first time ever –
