It was a very emotional night for RCB fans yesterday as Virat Kohli led the men in red and gold for one last time in the eliminator of IPL 2021. RCB lost that game at the hands of KKR as they were eliminated from the tournament after having a fantastic league phase where they won 9 out of 14 games and finished at no. 3 in the points table.
Kohli had announced at the start of the UAE leg itself that he would not be captaining RCB at the conclusion of the 2021 season which meant whenever RCB’s campaign in the tournament would end, that would be the last game of Virat Kohli as RCB captain and it turned out to be yesterday.
It was a sad day for RCB fans as Virat Kohli led the team for one last time
RCB fans were naturally very, very sad and disappointed, first because they couldn’t advance any further in the tournament and secondly because it was the last time Virat Kohli led them in the IPL.
While Kohli has made it very clear that he would continue playing for RCB till his last day as a player in IPL, RCB will now have to look for a new captain going ahead. There is a mega auction coming up and while RCB will have to structure the team in the auction, they will also have to specifically look for a man who can lead this team going forward.
A lot of RCB fans last night tweeted emotional stuff and paid tribute to Virat Kohli as a captain who led the team for 8 years after taking over from the former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori. Reaching the 2016 IPL final was the highlight of Kohli’s captaincy career at RCB as the team remained short of the title by a whisker that season. Kohli had scored 973 runs off his own bat in IPL 2016.
Here are some of the tweets of RCB fans after last night’s game –
Virat Kohli's IPL career as RCB captain ended without a trophy. You got to feel for the man who gave everything to win the trophy for RCB!
Thank you champion ❤️

Harshal Patel (in Press) said "There are captains and leaders, Virat Kohli is certainly a leader – he backs the bowlers every time and gives the confidence to execute the plans – I always thankful to him for my growth as a bowler".

Virat Kohli's 139 innings as an IPL captain begins with a 39* ten years back and finishes with a 39 today (to set 139 target). His last fifty as captain was in 39th match this season.
139 is also the highest score captain Kohli repeated twice in international cricket.#IPL2021

I am heartbroken that @RCBTweets didn't win Today. @imVkohli you are an inspiration to a generation and will continue to inspire us. Rightly said, you gave your 120% and that's all that counts.

Probably only after this era will be over, we will realize the magnitude of Virat Kohli & Ab de Villiers playing in the same era and in the same team.
The only all format great batters of the generation, two of the biggest superstars, being one team is as big as it can get. ❤️ pic.twitter.com/jk6zqvQFl5
