Much to the reprieve of Indian cricket fans, Virat Kohli finally managed to break his toss jinx and win the flip of fortunes at Leeds as India and England get into the third Test match of the five-match affair.
Eyes were set on Kohli’s call after he has managed to lose the last of his five tosses. The misfortunes started at Narendra Modi Stadium and continued until Lord’s where Kohli simply couldn’t manage fortunes to go his way.
Sadly, he also surpassed Dhoni’s record of losing consecutive tosses away from home, and it felt as if he was under more pressure to win today’s toss than winning the match.
India managed to go ahead in the series after scripting a remarkable victory against England, with the bowlers running riot in both innings. Rahul gave them a rollicking start after Joe Root put India to bat. Mohammad Siraj laid waste to the English forces with some ecstatic swing in both the innings.
The last time Kohli won the toss in a Test match, it was at MA Chidambaram Stadium where India staged a resolute victory to restore parity against England. Sadly, his captaincy record only reads a mediocre 42.86 percent of toss wins, as he could only win 27 tosses to date.
India went unchanged into the third Test as Shastri and company focused on maintaining the winning combination as India would be eager to maintain their winning streak at Leeds.
England made a couple of changes to their squad from the last game as they were compelled to introduce Craig Overton in place of an injured Mark Wood, while Dawid Malan came in for Dom Sibley.
Kohli won the toss and has elected to bat first in a decent batting surface, and eyes will be on the captain again as he will also have to come out of the shadows.
Twitter couldn’t contain their happiness as Kohli won the toss finally and filled the micro-blogging site with incredible humour.
