Straight after his IPL triumph with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), MS Dhoni joined the Indian set-up yesterday as a mentor. Dhoni was pictured in India’s practice session, where he was first in the team huddle and then was seen having a conversation with the head coach Ravi Shastri and batting coach Vikram Rathour.
MS Dhoni has been brought into the Indian set up particularly for the T20 World Cup in the role of a mentor where he will be working closely with the coaching staff, as mentioned by the BCCI secretary at the time of Dhoni’s appointment.
Virat Kohli has welcomed the appointment of MS Dhoni as team India’s mentor
The Indian skipper Virat Kohli, during the captain’s media session ahead of the start of the T20 World Cup, also welcomed the appointment of MS Dhoni in the mentor’s role saying that his eye for intricate details will help the team, particularly the younger players who are playing an ICC tournament for the first time in their careers.
Virat also stressed the point that the practical inputs that MS Dhoni give to the players can enhance their performance by an extra one or two percent.
Dhoni, having captained most of the players in the Indian dressing room currently, is very familiar with the set up and one would believe that he would be able to make a seamless transition into his role as a mentor and can help the players lift their game.
The Indian fans were delighted as BCCI posted a couple of photos of MS Dhoni in the Indian camp yesterday, extending a welcome to the former Indian captain back into the camp.
A sense of nostalgia hit the fans as they saw their former captain, who won world tournaments with the team, back in the blue kit again as he geared up with the rest of the coaching staff for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
