While the new Lucknow IPL franchise had announced their name and released their logo quite a few days ago, the fans of Ahmedabad were eagerly waiting for the name of the Ahmedabad IPL franchise as well, with the mega auction only 4 days away. Eventually, Ahmedabad announced the name today and declared that the franchise from today onwards will be known as “Gujarat Titans”.
The Lucknow Super Giants, when they had announced their name, had received a bit of flak from the fans as the fans were not happy with the fact that they took that name from the old IPL franchise Rising Pune Supergiant (RPSG). But, the name of the Ahmedabad IPL franchise has been welcomed by the fans on Twitter as it’s a bit of a different name and not the same name which has been circulating in the franchise cricket circuit.
Titans are a franchise in South Africa’s domestic circuit, but in none of the reputed T20 leagues around the world is there a team named Titans yet and that’s why “Gujarat Titans” seems like a breath of fresh air for the fans in terms of the name.
Although Lucknow Super Giants is also quite a cool and unique name, the only reason the fans didn’t welcome it much was that an old IPL franchise already existed with that name.
Ahmedabad IPL franchise is not very active on social media at the moment
Ahmedabad IPL franchise has been focused on the recruitment of the support staff and the players before the mega auction, but their social media game hasn’t been up to scratch yet, as the Lucknow Super Giants.
The advantage with Lucknow Super Giants was that they already had their social media handles of Rising Pune Supergiant, which was owned by the same group of companies. They are now using those social media handles for their new franchise.
As the mega auction approaches, the social media team of Gujarat Titans is surely going to be more active as well. Ahmedabad has already named the former Indian left-arm fast bowler Ashish Nehra as their head coach and the Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya as the captain of the team. The former England cricketer Vikram Solanki has been named their director of cricket.
After the announcement of the name, the Ahmedabad franchise might now release their logo as well, before they head into the mega auction for the construction of the team. The IPL mega auction will take place this weekend in Bengaluru.

Titans: Pre Olympian Greek Gods who were defeated and overthrown by the new Gods led by Zeus. No idea whatsoever what it has got to do with Gujarat though.
