Many members of the cricket universe would have an idea that the current head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, Ravi Shastri, is all set to say goodbye to his position after the culmination of the 2021 edition of the ICC T20 World Cup. And now, reports have emerged claiming that the former Indian cricket team captain Rahul Dravid has been appointed as the new coach of the Indian men’s cricket team.
According to TOI, Rahul Dravid will be the head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team for two years. Along with him, Paras Mhambrey will also be reportedly joining the coaching staff of the Indian men’s cricket team as the bowling coach.
Has Rahul Dravid coached the Indian men’s cricket team before?
Rahul Dravid was named the coach of the Indian men’s cricket team for the recently-concluded tour of Sri Lanka. Ravi Shastri was with the Indian Test squad in the United Kingdom for the ICC World Test Championship Final against New Zealand and the Test series against the England cricket team.
In between, the BCCI planned a tour of Sri Lanka for the Indian men’s cricket team. Since the entire Indian coaching staff was in the UK, the board had to select a new team of coaches for the Sri Lankan tour. Rahul Dravid was named the head coach then.
Unfortunately, because of a COVID-19 outbreak in the Indian camp, the Men in Blue could not complete a clean sweep on the Sri Lankan tour. They won the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against Sri Lanka in the 50-over format but suffered a 1-2 defeat in the T20Is.

Till yesterday news reports were saying Rahul Dravid was going to stay at the NCA. Yet early morning news broke of him becoming India coach. So what happened around midnight? My best guess is Lord Shardul blew candles on his birthday cake wishing to be coached by Rahul bhai 😊
