The Pro Kabaddi League is one of the top sports tournaments in India. The league has gained a massive fan following in a short time. The fast format of kabaddi has drawn many people to this sport. In the first season, there were eight teams in the competition. But, now there are 12 PKL teams.
PKL teams from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu joined the league in season five. So far, Patna Pirates has been the most successful team, with three titles to its name. U Mumba, Jaipur Pink Panthers, Bengal Warriors, and Bengaluru Bulls have won one title each. The key to success in kabaddi is to score more and concede less. 5. Bengal Warriors – 4113 points
The Bengal Warriors are the defending champions of PKL. They defeated Dabang Delhi K.C. to win their first trophy. However, Bengal was not so strong in the initial seasons. They struggled to qualify for the playoffs. The Warriors have conceded 4113 points to other PKL teams so far.
The Bengal Warriors have been home to some great defenders. But, their raiding unit was not so mighty as it is now. Hence, the opposition defence often trapped Bengal’s raiders. The Warriors had a great season in 2019. They conceded only 790 points in 24 matches and stood sixth in the list.
4. Bengaluru Bulls – 4118 points
The Bengaluru Bulls have conceded only five points more than the Bengal Warriors. Both teams have won one title each. Bengaluru won the title in season six. Pawan Sehrawat has played a vital role in the team’s rise. Manjeet Chhillar was the face of the franchise in the first two seasons. Even Ajay Thakur played for the Bulls then.
Bengaluru could not perform well after Manjeet and Ajay’s departure. Until Pawan Sehrawat’s heroics, Bengaluru struggled against its opponents. They took advantage of the team’s inexperience and scored a lot of points. Even in season seven, Bengaluru’s defence was not so strong. They gave away 855 points in 24 matches, the most by among all PKL teams in season 7.
3. Puneri Paltan – 4118 points
The Puneri Paltan struggled in the first few seasons just like Bengal Warriors. Wazir Singh was the lone star of the franchise. However, after a few seasons, the Pune franchise bought some big names to bolster their squad. Players like Manjeet Chhillar, Deepak Hooda, Ajay Thakur, and Nitin Tomar played for the Paltan. Still, Pune holds the third position on this list.
They have conceded the same number of points as Bengaluru Bulls. However, they have given away 4,118 points to other PKL teams in 128 matches. Bengaluru did so in 130 matches. So, Pune is above Bengaluru on this list. Puneri Paltan is yet to win a PKL title.
2. Dabang Delhi K.C. – 4250 points
Dabang Delhi K.C. reached their first PKL final in season seven. Delhi relied on two or three players in the initial tournaments. However, as the years have passed, Dabang Delhi K.C. has gotten stronger. Last season, they were only one step away from winning their first PKL trophy. Unfortunately, they could not win the summit clash.
Delhi is one of the only two PKL teams to have conceded 4,200 points in the tournament. In the last season, they conceded 823 points. Still, they managed to finish in the second position. Dabang Delhi K.C. had a very talented side in season seven. It is just a matter of time before they win their first trophy.
1. Patna Pirates have conceded the most points to PKL teams – 4,411
It is a bit surprising to see Patna Pirates at number one. They are the three-time champions. Also, they are the only team to win PKL more than once. Pardeep Narwal has scored a lot of points for the team. However, the defence has at times leaked points to other PKL teams.
Thus, there have been many high-scoring matches involving Patna. The fans enjoy watching the Pirates play. They have an aggressive style. There are not many empty raids in their matches. Thus, their tally of 4,411 points conceded is the highest one.
