“Those advertising boundary ropes are stupid,” Ben Stokes reckons Reece Topley suffered ligament injury because of advertising boundary ropes

Reece Topley has now been ruled out of the whole of T20 World Cup and has been replaced by Tymal Mills in the England squad

The England allrounder Ben Stokes is not at all happy with the way the simple boundary ropes of old times have now been converted into advertising boundary ropes, because he reckons those advertising boundary ropes are the reason why England lost the services of the fast bowler Reece Topley for the T20 World Cup 2022.

England would start their campaign in the T20 World Cup super 12 round later today with a game against Afghanistan in Perth, but Reece Topley injured himself during the preparatory T20I bilateral series that England played against Australia before the World Cup.

Topley suffered a ligament injury as he stood onto those thick advertising boundary ropes while trying to chase a ball and Stokes, while addressing the press ahead of the game against Afghanistan, said that those advertising ropes are “stupid” and the organisers need to look into it.

Ben Stokes said it’s really difficult these days because all the advertisers want their names somewhere and most want their names on the boundary ropes now, which has resulted into the boundary ropes getting thicker than before and it poses a risk of causing injury to the players.

Ben Stokes has been vocal in his criticism of cricket administration recently

Stokes has been very vocal in his criticism of cricket administration at the global level in the recent times and it was only a couple of months ago that he lashed out at the ECB and also at the other boards for putting too many fixtures in the Future Tour Programme (FTP). Criticism of Stokes, however, had no affects on the future FTP, as the FTP of 2023-27 announced by the ICC remained more or less the same as the previous one.

The English allrounder, who is also the captain of England test team, has now expressed his unhappiness over the advertising boundary ropes and he wants some kind of solution to be found about it.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
