The 56th match of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League is underway right now at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, where five-time champions Mumbai Indians are locking horns with last season’s runners-up Kolkata Knight Riders. MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah returned to form tonight as he picked up his maiden five-wicket haul in IPL history.
Bumrah has been playing in the IPL since 2013. He is one of the most successful Mumbai Indians bowlers in the tournament’s history. While he had taken a couple of four-wicket hauls in the IPL before, he was never able to bag five wickets in an innings.
Speaking with the host broadcasters after his first ever five-wicket haul in IPL cricket, Jasprit Bumrah said:
“I don’t go in with a fixed mindset. In training, I practice everything. Sometimes I bowl more at the end, sometimes more in the beginning. I am happy with wherever I can contribute. (On the hat-trick ball) Southee is a bowler and he was expecting the yorker. I thought it was the best option.”

Fans should note that while Bumrah finished with five-wicket haul at the end of the innings, he did not have any wickets to his name until the 15th over of the Kolkata Knight Riders innings. He got off the mark by dismissing the dangerous Andre Russell on the second ball of the 15th over. Soon after, he dismissed the well-set Nitish Rana in the same over.
Bumrah then bowled a triple wicket maiden to stun the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the 18th over of the match, he did not concede a single run and dismissed the trio of Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to his spell:
