“The West Indies story is a worrying story for world cricket,” Twitter reacts in shock as two time champions bow out from the first round of T20 World Cup

West Indies had failed to make it to the semi-final round of the last T20 World Cup as well

The two times T20 World Cup champions West Indies got eliminated from the first round of T20 World Cup 2022 earlier today after they lost their second game in the preliminary round, ahead of the Super 12s.

West Indies had lost their first game in the tournament against Scotland, but they had made a thumping comeback in the next game against Zimbabwe and had kept themselves in contention for the super 12s, however, the last game against Ireland was a must win for them which they ended up losing today.

So far in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, the teams batting first have had a slight advantage because it has not been easy to chase down totals and Windies’ skipper Nicholas Pooran won a good toss today, but the Windies batsmen weren’t able to put a big score on the board.

It’s again the spin bowling which did most of the damage to the Windies, as the Irish leg spinner Gareth Delany bowled a spell of 16 for 3 in his 4 overs which put complete brakes on the momentum of the Windies innings and they eventually finished with a score well below par on a good Hobart surface.

Ireland absolutely dominated West Indies in the must-win game for Super 12 qualification

Ireland, in reply, went on the attack straightaway as they didn’t want the Windies bowlers to put the squeeze on in the first few overs of the chase. The way the Irish openers batted, the Caribbean bowlers didn’t have too much of a chance to come back from there.

The Irish skipper Andrew Balbirnie couldn’t quite get the job done by remaining unbeaten, but the second-wicket partnership between Paul Stirling and Lorcan Tucker made sure that Ireland made their way into the super 12 round of T20 World Cup 2022.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
