Cody Rhodes reached the pinnacle of sports entertainment at WrestleMania 40 when he dethroned Roman Reigns to win the Undisputed WWE Championship. However, his road to the main event of The Show of Shows was a turbulent ride, and he recently revealed an intriguing detail regarding his road to WrestleMania.
After coming up short at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes worked his way back up and won his second consecutive Royal Rumble match this year. With his victory, he guaranteed his spot in the main event of WrestleMania 40. However, in the weeks leading up to the event, Rhodes surrendered his spot to The Rock for that match against Roman Reigns.
What did Cody Rhodes reveal about his road to WrestleMania 40 ride?
During his recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, the current Undisputed WWE Champion rebuffed all claims that he was cool about stepping aside from the main event of WrestleMania 40 and anybody who thought otherwise was insane.
Moreover, The Rock also later found out that Rhodes was not cool about the direction WWE was taking.
“A lot of people said, ‘He’s The Rock. He can do whatever he wants.’ I saw a podcast with two wrestling heads talking and they said, ‘I’m sure Cody is fine stepping aside for WrestleMania and doing it later in the year.’ In my mind, I’m thinking, ‘That’s insane.’ That’s nonsense. I worked my whole life for this. Rock should know I wouldn’t be cool with it. Maybe that’s an understanding him and I have. He found out, I’m not cool with it.”
Despite Cody Rhodes stepping aside, a massive fan backlash outrightly rejected The Rock and led him to his destiny at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes did the unthinkable and defeated Roman Reigns at the event to ‘Finish The Story.’ He has had successful title defenses against AJ Styles after the show.
