“That Was Crazy”- Rey Mysterio Recalls His 1st Meeting With CM Punk In 2002

WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio has opened up on his first meeting with CM Punk back at an indy show in 2002. It was more than two decades ago, but Mysterio still remembered how he met Punk, and then they had a triple threat match, also featuring WWE Legend Eddie Guerrero.

During a recent appearance on the Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Rey Mysterio spoke at length about his relationship with CM Punk. He disclosed that he is not super close with him, but they keep chatting every now and then. They also speak about the career of Dominik Mysterio.

Recently, at a WWE Live event, CM Punk made his much-awaited WWE in-ring return against Dominik Mysterio in front of a jam-packed crowd at Madison Square Garden. Rey Mysterio also recalled the triple threat match between himself, CM Punk and Eddie Guerrero and said:

“That was crazy. I still hadn’t made my way to WWE. I know Eddie; I believe that was his last match before he went back to WWE. So, you go back and look at that time, how the independent scene was very booming, having Eddie there. That was the first time I had met Punk.”

Rey Mysterio says he hit it off right away with CM Punk

During the same podcast, Mysterio said that he hit it off right away with Punk. Both WWE Superstars had a similar mindset that they want to deliver a great show to the audience, and it did not matter to them if there were five fans watching them or an arena full of 15,000 people.

All three wrestlers had a great time together, and then, they all joined WWE as well. All three Superstars have had success in WWE as well. Mysterio and Punk are still a part of WWE. It will be interesting to see if they cross paths again.
