“I’ll break that,” Umran Malik’s witty reply on breaking Shoaib Akhtar’s record of the fastest delivery

Umran Malik is the fastest Indian bowler.

Indian fast bowler Umran Malik has opened up about breaking Shoaib Akhtar’s record of fastest delivery. He said that currently he’s thinking about doing well for his country and if he’s lucky enough he can break the record for the fastest ball as well.

“If I’m lucky, I’ll break that,” Umran Malik on breaking Shoaib Akhtar’s record of the fastest delivery

Umran rose into the ranks after his sheer pace surprised many during the IPL 2022. His ability to bowl 150 kmph consistently impressed one and all and it also troubled many batters.

Not only did Umran impress many with his pace, but he also was the strike bowler for his team and took 22 wickets in the tournament, the fourth-highest in this season. His heroics made his debut for India in the T20Is. He bowed decently during his debut series against Ireland and also defended 17 runs in the last over of the second T20I to help his side win the match.

However, after that, he asserted his authority in the ODI format as well as he made a staggering debut in New Zealand and then was breathing fire in the ODIs against Bangladesh as well. He has now been named in both T20I and ODI squads for the Sri Lanka series and it’s fair to say if he performs well he can be a vital cog for India in World Cup next year.

With Umran breathing fire in almost every game, he’s a strong candidate to break Akhtar’s record of 161.3 kmph. His fastest delivery so far has been 157 kmph, which he bowled in the IPL 2022. Many have backed him to script history and become the fastest bowler in the history of the game.

However, he himself has opened up about breaking the record. Speaking to News 24, he said: “Right now, I’m only thinking about performing well for the country. If I do well, and if I’m lucky, I’ll break that. But I don’t think about it at all.”

“My only focus is on bowling in the right areas and picking wickets,” says Umran Malik

Umran further said that he doesn’t keep track of how fast he bowled in the game as his focus is just on bowling right areas and picking wickets. He added:

“You don’t get to realise how fast you’ve bowled during the match. It’s only when we come back after the game when we get to know how fast I was. During the game, my only focus is on bowling in the right areas and picking wickets.”

Umran will be next seen in action in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting on 3rd January.
