“Changing The Ways In More Ways Than One”, Twitter Goes Berserk As England Slays Germany To Lift The Women’s Euro

Football finally came home as England pulled off the rare feat of lifting a silverware since 1966, the year that stayed witness to the golden era of English football. What started off as an explosive affair, would soon turn into a slugfest as physical football will be taking the fore while tactics and artistic brilliance flew out of the window.

Even before the contest started, the English women were handed over a head-start after Germanyā€™s illustrious Alex Popp was forced to withdraw from the starting, copping an injury in the warm-up. The game exploded to life in the early stages with Lauren Hemp bombing down the left wing and whipping in a peach of a cross for a marauding White only for the latter to noggin straight at Frohms who had so far relished a blue-ribbon tournament.

England waited for their time and struck when the iron was hot

As the game progressed, the contest in the midfield would start to heat up with two stalwarts Georgia Stanway and Lena Oberdorf taking each other head-on that would also involve some serious physical tussles with both being taken into the book on either side of the break.

A couple of substitutions in the form of Toone and Alessia Russo in place of Fran Kirby and White pushed the needle in the English ascendancy with the first strike of the night coming within just six minutes of the swap. A long-range splitting pass from Keira Walsh was placed in the stride of Toone and the Manchester United forward hammered home to send the English congregation into a frenzied burst of exhilarations.

Germany upped their ante and with every passing minute they will be coming closer and closer with Magull being the tormentor-in-chief for England. The English defenders were consistently swept of their toes and the incessant attacks would leave the formerā€™s hopes rattled. The relentless infringements from the Germans would finally bear fruit as Wassmuth would chime in with a crucial cross that would be met with substantial force by Magull to restore world order.

Despite the German rise with every passing second, if there has been a recurrent motif to the English invasion of Europe that has been their rock-solid will of never giving up. The Germans seemed a lot more imperious with two pairs of fresh legs coming into the picture starring the likes of Linda Dallmann and Sara Doorsoun.

With ten minutes to go from the final whistle, the unthinkable happened. In the 110th minute, Hemp would send in a curling corner where the ball would bounce down off Bronze and Kelly, sniffing blood like a predator would stick a foot out and steer the ball into the promised land, sending the English fans in an explosion of sheer frenzy, a bout of joy that they have not known since the last fifty years and more.

Twitter couldnā€™t hold their emotions back as the unthinkable unfolded and it was England who would eventually put an end to their international trophy drought, spinning into a force a revolution that very few chose to believe at first.
