The countdown has started for the first edition of the Women’s Premier League. The tournament would start on March 4th. Hence, franchises have started to make announcements. While Mumbai Indians released their jersey on Saturday, today, it was the turn of Gujarat Giants. WPL to start on March 4th

The first edition of WPL will be anticipated by many. This was a long time coming and now that it is happening, it will be interesting to see how the fans would consume it. On the cricket front, the men’s IPL has helped the men’s Indian Team and the expectation would be similar for the women’s squad.

Gujarat Giants had a decent auction. They spent heavy on the overseas players while they could not get the best of Indian players. Some of their Indian recruits are Harleen Deol and Sneh Rana, who are not regulars in the Indian T20I squad. Nevertheless, the foreign players such as Ash Gardener, Beth Mooney, Sophia Dunkley and Deandra Dottin would be expected to do the bulk of duties for the team.

Twitter reacts to the picture of the jersey in WPL

There is always the possibility of mixed reactions to the jersey of each franchise. Hence, it was not a surprise that there were different opinions on how the fans received the jersey announcement of Gujarat Giants. Right from the auction and the logo, it was clear that the franchise would have a dominant colour of orange. Considering they would play at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the future, this was a given because the stadium also has a heavy tinge of orange.
