“T10 format can be used in Olympics,” Faf du Plessis backs the shortermost format of the game to grow further

Faf du Plessis will be playing for Bangla Tigers in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 league

The former South African captain Faf du Plessis reckons that the T10 format of the game will get more and more popular as the years go by because of its rapid nature, and it can also be a good medium for the game of cricket to ensure its inclusion into the Olympics.

Cricket has not been a part of the Olympics for a long time, but the International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced that they would try and secure cricket’s inclusion into the Olympics from 2028 which will take place in Los Angeles, USA.

The recent Olympic Games in Tokyo got a lot of traction in India and since India is the biggest cricketing market in the world, it seems only logical for ICC to try and get cricket into the Olympics in the T10 form.

“The future of T10 is looking good. It’s a format that can be used in the Olympics,” Du Plessis, who will reach UAE soon to lead the Bangla Tigers in the Abu Dhabi T10 tournament, said while interacting with the press online.

The CSK opener insisted that for cricketers to switch between the formats, from T20 to T10 or between whatever formats, what’s most important for them is to have a clear understanding of their own game and formulate gameplans accordingly.

Faf du Plessis was not too far away from winning the orange cap in IPL 2021

Faf du Plessis had a stellar IPL season a few weeks back in the UAE where he was the second leading run-scorer in the tournament and missed the orange cap by a whisker. However, he made a match-winning impact for CSK in the final with 89 runs at the top of the order.

The 37-year-old, who has now retired from test match cricket, feels he has got better and better in the shortest format of the game over the years.

Most of the success that Du Plessis has achieved in the IPL has come at the top of the order. But, he is not sure if he will be opening the batting for Bangla Tigers in the T10 league because he hasn’t had a discussion with the coaches about his batting position yet. Du Plessis, however, admitted that opening the batting is what he prefers doing in the shorter formats.

“Batting in top order would be my best position. But I haven’t had those discussions with the management yet,” Faf du Plessis concluded.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
