However, apart from the well-known players, there have been many unknown faces who left a mark in the league and have turned out to be assets for their teams. The marquee tournament over the years has opened doors for many players to prove and show their mettle to the world. It is because of the IPL that players who debut for the country play fearless cricket and express themselves.

2 overseas players who have scored centuries for Mumbai Indians in IPL history

Itโ€™s fair to say that one of the prime reasons for the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been Mumbai Indians. Not only they have won five titles in the league but they have produced some brilliant overseas talents, who are currently the mainstay of the team these days. So far only 4 centuries have been scored by MI players in the league and in this piece we take look at two overseas players to have achieved the feat.

Sanath Jayasuriya- 114*ย 

Sanath Jayasuriya was the first-ever player to score a century for Mumbai Indians in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sri Lanka legend was the mainstay of MI’s batting lineup during the early years. He achieved the milestone of hitting a century in the inaugural edition of the league when he smashed unbeaten 114 runs in just 47 balls against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium. He batted staggeringly well as he smashes runs with a strike rate of 237.50 and helped his side win the game.

Lendl Simmons – 100*ย 

Lendl Simmons was the second overseas player to have scored a century for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The West Indies batter was at his staggering best in the IPL 2014 as he smashed runs against all teams. He achieved the feat during the game against Punjab Kings when he smashed unbeaten 100 runs in just 61 balls at a strike rate of over 163. His innings helped his side post a mammoth total on the board and win the game.
