India’s most successful Olympics ever ended on a very high and proud note as both Bajrang Punia and Neeraj Chopra take home medals. Meanwhile, Aditi Ashok the young golfer missed out on a medal spot by inches but nonetheless made her country proud and made the entire nation stick to their screens to watch Golf for 3 days.
After leading for 3 rounds in the first 3 days, Aditi Ashok was looking certain for a spot on the podium, but weather conditions didn’t favour the 23-year-old as she finished fourth. Aditi was just inches away from what could have been India’s first-ever Olympic medal in the sport.
Bajrang Punia takes home bronze
Bajrang Punia went into this Olympics with great hopes of winning a medal as he was considered to be a medal contender by many, Punia didn’t disappoint at all as he proudly wore the bronze around his neck. The 27-year-old wrestler put out an outstanding and dominating performance as he won the bout 8-0 against his opponent, Daulet Niyazbekov of Kazakhstan.
With this medal, Deepak now becomes the second Indian wrestler at the Tokyo Olympics to win a medal for his country after Ravi Kumar Dahiya who won silver. World number ranked 2, Bajrang Punia now has completed his glorious trophy cabinet with an Olympic medal.
Neeraj Chopra forever etches himself in the hearts of Indian history books
Neeraj became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics as he dashed his way through in the men’s javelin throw final, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in athletics for his country. With this feat, Neeraj also becomes the second Indian to win a gold in Olympics, joining Abhinav Bindra who won a gold in shooting in 2008. With this medal, the country surpassed its previous best haul of six medals at the Olympics. Neeraj held the Indian flag as high he could as the eyes of billions gleamed while the national anthem was being played.
