Seven instances CSK lost all wickets in IPL history

Along with Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings have been the most successful franchise in the history of the IPL. This is the first time in the history of the IPL they won’t be part of the playoffs. One of the main reasons for their success is the way they approach the game. They have all the experience and most of the players know their roles in the team. You don’t see the CSK batting collapsing in many games (excluding this season). It is very rare to see that CSK has lost all the ten wickets in a game. It has happened only seven times up till now. So, let’s have a look at those seven instances.

7. CSK vs RR – 2008 – 109 all out

The first time CSK lost all the wickets in the IPL was way back in the first season of the IPL in 2008 against the eventual champions – Rajasthan Royals. CSK won the toss and opted to bat first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur but the move backfired as they completely collapsed and were bowled out for 109. Joginder Sharma who is known for bowling the last over in the T20 World Cup was the highest run-scorer with 42 runs. Sohail Tanvir, the purple cap winner picked up six wickets for 14 runs which were the best figures in the IPL till last season.

6. CSK vs DD – 2009 – 163 all out

CSK was up against Delhi Daredevils in 2009 at Johannesburg. DD won the toss and asked CSK to bat first. CSK didn’t collapse this time as Subramaniam Badrinath scored 45 off 34 balls but they lost quick wickets towards the end of the innings and were eventually bowled out on the last ball for 163. The number of wickets fallen didn’t matter in the end as CSK won the game by 18 runs with Shadab Jakati picking up four wickets.

5. CSK vs RCB – 2009 – 129 all out

In the same season, CSK were bowled out once against but this time against Royal Challengers Bangalore. CSK was batting first and they got off to a good start as Matthew Hayden scored 60 off 38 balls but suddenly wickets started falling and CSK was bowled out for 129 in 19.4 overs. They lost three wickets at the score of 118. It was a tight game as RCB chased down the score but lost eight wickets in the chase.

4. CSK vs MI – 2012 – 112 all out

CSK were playing against their rivals Mumbai Indians at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. MI won the toss and opted to field first. Batting first, CSK was off to a decent start as the scoreboard read 75-2 but after that, there was a huge collapse which led to CSK getting bowled out for 112 in 19.5 overs. MI chased down the score pretty easily with 8 wickets in hand.

3. CSK vs MI – 2013 – 79 all out

MI won the toss and batted first in an important clash against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium in 2013. MI scored 139 in their 20 overs and it seemed as if CSK might chase it down. The MI bowlers were terrific as CSK was bowled out for 79 which is still their lowest score for CSK in the IPL up till now. Mitchell Johnson and Pragyan Ojha picked up three wickets each to initiate a massive collapse.

2. CSK vs MI – 2015 – 162 all out

CSK was up against MI in Qualifier 1 in 2015 and the Mumbai Indians were batting first. MI put up 187/6 in their 20 overs which was going to be a tough ask for the CSK batsmen. Chasing 188, CSK were bowled out for 162 in 19 overs. Faf Du Plessis was the only one who crossed 30 as he scored 45 runs in 34 balls. The rest of the batsmen failed to deliver in a crucial game for CSK.

1. CSK vs MI – 2019 – 109 all out

Chennai Super Kings were playing without their skipper MS Dhoni as he had some back issues and hence, he had taken a rest. MI batted first once again and put up 155 in their 20 overs on a slow Chepauk pitch. CSK was never in the chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually were bowled out for 109 in just 17.4 overs. CSK has had the worst season in 2020 but still, they haven’t been bowled out even once.
