3 players unlucky to miss out on the England ODI World Cup provisional squad

England has named the squad that is likely to play in the upcoming 2023 ODI WC. As expected, there were a few surprises. Since Ben Stokes returned, a batter had to lose his spot. Here, we take a look at three players unlucky to miss out on the England ODI World Cup provisional squad. Before that, here is a look at the squad that has been selected.

England’s provisional squad for the World Cup: Jos Buttler (C), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes.

1) Harry Brook

Harry Brook is a quality player. In the last few months, he was an excellent player and looked certain to play in the ODI World Cup.

However, he has not been named in the squad. It is clear that Ben Stokes has taken his place in the setup. For a youngster who dreamt of playing in the WC, it will be a major disappointment.

2) Ben Duckett

Ben Duckett is one of the players unlucky to miss out on the England ODI World Cup provisional squad. Like Brook, Duckett would have also been expecting a call for the World Cup. However, England has gone ahead with seniors such as Joe Root, Dawid Malan and Ben Stokes.

Duckett is an attacking player and could have made a difference. He will consider himself unlucky not to have got an opportunity.

3) Rehan Ahmed

England has surprisingly gone ahead with Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid as the main spinners. Joe Root and Liam Livingstone will serve as the part-time options.

Rehan Ahmed recently made his debut in this regard. Many felt he would be selected as Adil’s backup. However, the player has not been selected. That said, he could still be one of the standbys.
