“It Happened After 15 Years”- Twitter User Shared An Interesting Trivia After Nadal Made Epic Comeback

Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal stunned the entire world with an unbelievable win over Daniil Medvedev in the 2022 Australian Open Final. At one point of time last year, Nadal thought he would have to retire because of fitness issues. However, he recovered and made a startling come back to the court. He played a five-set thriller to beat Medvedev.

The match started with Medvedev winning the first two sets. Quite a few members of the tennis universe would have thought that Medvedev would win his maiden Australian Open championship. However, that did not happen courtesy of an incredible comeback from Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard won the next three sets as the match ended with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5. Nadal won his second Australian Open trophy, the first since 2009, and overall, it was his 21st Grand Slam. He is one Grand Slam title ahead of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer now.

A Twitter user posted the following statistic after Rafael Nadal’s incredible comeback:

“A stat I think you can trust me on this time… Rafael Nadal hasn’t won a best-of-five-set match from two sets down since 2007, when he beat Mikhail Youzhny in the fourth round at Wimbledon.”

When was the last time Rafael Nadal won a match after being 2 sets down?

As pointed out by the Twitter use, Rafael Nadal won a best-of-five-set match from two sets down for the first time since the year 2007, meaning the last time fans saw Nadal make a great comeback it was 15 years ago.

It was the Wimbledon 2007 tournament, where Rafael crossed paths with Mikail Youzhny in the fourth round. 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 was the scoreline of that match. “After the first two sets maybe I played the best game on grass in my life,” Rafael said after the match. Even in the 2022 Australian Open, many fans feel Nadal played on a whole new level.
