Kevin Pietersen Picks His Choice For India’s Next Test Captain

A couple of days ago, Virat Kohli announced his decision to quit as the captain of the Indian Test Team. Virat is now devoid of any captaincy duties. After he made the decision, the talk has been about his replacement. Meanwhile, former England player Kevin Pietersen named his choice for the role. In this article, we take a look at Kevin Pietersen’s choice as India’s next Test captain.

Kevin Pietersen picks India’s next Test captain

Kevin Pietersen has opined that Rohit Sharma would be the best bet to take over the reins of the Test Team. A few weeks ago, Rohit had replaced Virat as the skipper of the ODI Team. Hence, he got the responsibility of both the limited-overs formats. Now, KP has backed Rohit to become the captain in all the formats.

Speaking to India Today, he said, “You (India) are so lucky that you have so many options for the captain. I will probably stick with Rohit Sharma. He is a great leader, I love the authority he commands. He makes fabulous decisions and we’ve seen them with Mumbai Indians, he has won so many titles with them. More importantly, I am really looking forward to how Rahul Dravid is with that team – can he do it with the youngsters, can he do it with the big guys.”

A tough call for the management

However, BCCI and the management will have a tough time figuring out Virat’s replacement. While Rohit is a good choice, his injury record can be a concern. He is also close to 35 and will not offer the long-term value to the decision. On the other hand, the likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are too inexperienced for the responsibility. In whatever chances he has got so far, Rahul has not inspired the confidence of the fans with his leadership skills. Hence, it will be a tricky call for the management to take.
