A Twitter User Shares A Stat During India’s 1000th ODI That Sums Up Sachin Tendulkar’s Longevity In International Cricket

The Indian cricket team played its 1000th ODI match against the West Indies cricket team earlier today at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The home side picked up a comfortable six-wicket win, riding on a half-century from captain Rohit Sharma. Many fans would know that Sharma once played with Sachin Tendulkar for the Indian cricket team.

Tendulkar is a man who has been an integral part of Indian cricket. The right-handed batter scored heaps of runs for the Men in Blue in the 50-over format. To date, he holds the record for the most number of runs in one-day international cricket. The fact that he played 463 out of the 1,000 ODI matches that India have been a part of highlights his career’s longevity.

During the 1,000th ODI game of the Indian cricket team, a Twitter user posted another interesting statistic that summed up the longevity of Tendulkar’s career. In the sixth ODI match of the Indian team, Dilip Vengsarkar played for the team. Now, in the 1,000th ODI, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli played for the Men in Blue.

The common thing is that right from match number 6 to 1,000, there has been at least one player in the playing XI who once played with Tendulkar.

“From Dilip Vengsarkar who played in India’s 6th ODI to Rohit-Kohli who are playing India’s 1000th ODI, each of them were teammates of Sachin Tendulkar,” wrote the Twitter user.

A teammate of Sachin Tendulkar played in 995 ODI matches for the Indian cricket team

Only in the first five ODI matches, the Indian cricket team took the field without a teammate of Tendulkar. Given that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are performing well, it goes without saying that this trend will continue for a few more years.
