2 players unlucky to miss out on India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad

BCCI announced India’s team for the upcoming World Cup on Tuesday. As expected, there were a few surprise ommissions from the squad. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two players unlucky to miss out on India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad.

India’s Team for the ODI World Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya (VC), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal

India’s spin department for the World Cup will include Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. All are left-arm spinners and it is surprising that India has not gone for variety. Especially with Yuzvendra Chahal around, India might have used his experience, considering the tournament is happening in India.

For Chahal, this is not the first time missing out on the squad for a major event. In the past, as well, he has suffered a similar fate. It now needs to be seen how his future would pan out in the ODI setup after the World Cup.

2) Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson is also one of the players unlucky to miss out on India’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad. Although he is on the standby list, Sanju might still consider himself unlucky to have not made it to the final 15. In the recent months, he has been in good form and has adapted to various roles in the ODI Team.

On the other hand, Suryakumar Yadav has struggled for form in this format. However, the Mumbai cricketer got picked, mainly because of his superstar ability to change the direction of the game on his day. Being a wicket-keeper, Sanju might have been a safer option, considering KL Rahul is coming from an injury. All these reasons have put Sanju on this list.
