In any form of cricket, getting out for a duck is a shameful incident for the batsman. As a competent batsman, you want to score as many runs as possible. However, bad form can strike anyone at any time. All batsmen experience bad forms and get out for ducks. In today’s article, we will take a look at 5 batsmen to score 3 consecutive ducks in ODIs.

#1. Tom Moody

Tom Moody was a prolific all-rounder. The lanky cricketer overcame early awkwardness against short deliveries and developed into a great batsman. He is the first cricketer to feature in this list. He registered 3 consecutive ducks while going through a rough patch. Moody got out for 0 against West Indies at Perth (12 Jan 1997), against South Africa at Melbourne (9 Dec 1997) and against New Zealand at Sydney (14 Jan 1998).

However, back injuries soon led to Moody retiring from international cricket. He went on to work in an administrative role in Cricket Australia. Moody currently works as the Director of Cricket for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

#2. Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik is one of the most prolific cricketers Pakistan has produced. The former Pakistan skipper is capable of filling almost any role in the team. Thus, this makes him a valuable asset for anyone having him in their team. But just like every other great cricketer, Malik also went through bad forms.

Malik registered 3 consecutive ducks against New Zealand, all 3 of them being in New Zealand on 26 Feb 2003, 10 Jan 2004, and 14 Jan 2004 respectively. Though it was a display of poor batting, Malik has come a long way since then.

#3. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is undoubtedly one of the greatest batsmen of all time. The legendary cricketer is the gold standard for batting captaincy in Australia. Ponting made a career out of breaking and creating new records. He has been a part of most ODI wins (262) in the world. So his inclusion in this list just proves that no one is safe from bad luck and bad form.

#4. Andrew Symonds

From one Aussie to another, Andrew Symonds was one of Australia’s most destructive batsmen. His aggressive style of batting was a mixed bag. He would get great success, or fail with equal ease. In addition to this, his attitude problems off-field greatly shortened his career. He scored 5088 runs at an average of 39.75 in ODIs.

Symonds got 3 consecutive ducks vs England and New Zealand. He got out for a duck against England in September 2004, and against New Zealand in the December of the same year. Thus, this places him on our list as one of the more popular batsmen to achieve this dubious feat.
