“I think we have the 1st WPL controversy”, Twitter reacts as Deandro Dottin announces she is fit after Gujarat Giants pick her injury replacement

The Women’s Premier League started on March 4th. Before the season started, there is already a controversy that is brewing. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Deandro Dottin announces she is fit after Gujarat Giants pick her injury replacement.

Gujarat Giants has a replacement onboard for Deandro Dottin

The Ahmedabad-based franchise has selected Kim Garth as the replacement for Deandro Dottin. Interestingly, in reply to this news, the West Indian legend announced that she is fit. Therefore, it was surprising to see the statement by the player and Gujarat’s decision.

Meanwhile, Beth Mooney will lead Gujarat in the first season of WPL. This was a surprise because Ash Gardener was considered as one of the best possible candidates to fill the role. Considering the value that Gardener adds to the squad, she would have been a logical option. Nevertheless, it is only after the season starts that we would be able to arrive at a conclusion.

GG will also have some issues with the squad balance. The team is light on a strong Indian contingent. Sneh Rana is the vice-captain of the squad and will be important for the prospects of the squad. On the other hand, the likes of Harleen Deol and S Meghana will also be expected to do well. The core of the squad belongs to the foreign cricketers. If the franchise has to progress well in the competition, the likes of Ashleigh Gardner, and Sophia Dunkley along with skipper Beth Mooney will have to be in top form.

Twitter reacts to the controversy

IPL has not been new to controversies. Hence, it is not a surprise that even the WPL has already seen a short controversy. It will also be interesting to see how this situation would reach a conclusion. Here is how Twitter reacted to the same:
