Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the greatest Test players of all time. He has proven himself as a match-winner many times while wearing the white jersey for the Indian cricket team in the longest format of the game. Ashwin was initially a primary right-arm off-spinner. Gradually, he became a reliable all-rounder for India.
The Tamil Nadu-born player has performed exceptionally well for the Indian Test team. In the recently-concluded Test series against the New Zealand cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin won the Man of the Series award. While Ashwin won his 9th Man of the Series award in Test cricket, he also created a new record.
The right-arm off-spinner bagged two four-wicket hauls in the final Test against the New Zealand cricket team. Thanks to his eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Ravichandran Ashwin has now become the most successful bowler in Test matches where the Indian cricket team emerged victorious.
Ravichandran Ashwin went past Anil Kumble on the all-time list
Heading into the second Test of the series against the New Zealand cricket team, Ravichandran Ashwin had taken 288 wickets in the matches where the Indian cricket team emerged victorious. His eight wickets, including a dream spell of 4/8 against the New Zealand cricket team, helped the Indian cricket register a record-breaking 372-run victory at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday.
Since he took eight more wickets in the Mumbai Test match, Ravichandran Ashwin now has 296 wickets in India’s Test wins. He has overtaken former Indian leg-spinner, Anil Kumble. Before the game, both Kumble and Ashwin had 288 wickets each. Now Ashwin is very close to the 300-mark.

The only other Indian cricketer to have taken 200 or more wickets in the matches where the Indian cricket team beat their opponents is Harbhajan Singh, who bagged 221 Test wickets. While Harbhajan has not retired from Test cricket officially, it seems highly unlikely that fans will see him playing Tests for India again.
Ashwin’s current teammates Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma have taken more than 150 wickets in India’s Test wins. Zaheer Khan is the fifth name with 149 wickets. In T20Is, Yuzvendra Chahal is number one with 50 wickets, whereas in ODIs, Anil Kumble is at the top with 198 wickets.
