The way Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have played in the ongoing IPL, one would think that they won’t make too many changes in their squad for the next IPL season, as they haven’t just finished top 2 in the points table, but they have also reached the final of IPL 2023.

However, because of various different reasons, it’s very much possible that the Chennai Super Kings might make a couple of releases before the next IPL which will shock the fans.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes was signed for a price tag of 16.25 crore INR, but he was probably not fit enough to do the job that CSK had signed him for. The reason CSK had spent such a huge sum of money for Stokes was that he is an all-rounder and CSK were expecting 4 overs from him as well, apart from his power hitting down the order.

Stokes, however, was not fit enough to bowl initially and when he reached full fitness towards the end of the tournament, the CSK skipper MS Dhoni didn’t get him back into the XI, as the playing XI of CSK was quite settled by that time. Going into next season of IPL, CSK might decide to release Stokes because of uncertainty around his availability and fitness all the time.

Ambati Rayudu

This is actually supposed to be Ambati Rayudu’s last season in the IPL, but even if it isn’t and even if Rayudu continues to play, CSK might not retain him for the next IPL.

CSK has already got a couple of middle order batsmen sitting on the bench in the form of Subhranshu Senapati and Shaikh Rasheed and one of those two will probably take Rayudu’s place in the CSK middle order from next year onwards. Whether Rayudu is released or he retires, he will go down in history as a very successful player for CSK.
