Ashes 2023: “If it doesn’t, work out, who made that decision will be asked,” Darren Lehmann slams Australia for not playing a warmup game ahead of Ashes

Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann lashed out at Pat Cummins-led side for not playing a warmup game ahead of the Ashes 2023. He said that as touring they need to acclimatise first and foremost and if not playing a warmup game doesn’t work out then questions will be asked.

Australia not playing a warmup game ahead of the Ashes for the first time in history 

The Test cricket fever is back and it’ll see one of the most exciting rivalry. England is all set to host Australia in a five-match series. Ashes 2023 will begin from 16th June in Edgbaston, which will be followed by the second game on 28th June at Lord’s.

The third game of the Ashes 2023 will be played on July 6th in Leeds whereas the last two games are slated to take place on July 19th and July 27th on Manchester and the Oval respectively.

It’ll be the first time in history that Australia will not play a warmup game ahead of the Ashes in England. A few of the Australian players are plying their trade in the county championship and it’ll be the preparation they’ll get.

Many have criticised Australia for not playing the warmup game as they feel that it’ll cost them the series. Darren Lehman feels that it’s not a good idea and if Australia loses the series many will lash out at them. Speaking to SEN, he said:

“You need games to acclimatise first and foremost. To get used to the ball and wickets and pressure. No tour game is not a good idea. I hope it works but if it doesn’t, who made that decision will be asked. I think we win the Ashes anyway 3-1, but if we don’t, wow.”

Ahead of the Ashes 2023, Australia will play with India in the final of the World Test Championship Final. The game will be played in the Oval from 7th to 11th June.
