England defeated the Netherlands by 232 runs in the first of the three ODIs between the teams on Friday. It was a stunning show by the Englishmen, who got to the highest-ever ODI score in the first innings. Happening at Amstelveen in the Netherlands, the game also had a hilarious sequence of events in the first innings. After Dawid Malan had hit a six, the ball went into the trees and the Dutch players themselves had to procure it after searching through it. Despite the loss of the early wicket of Jason Roy, England did extremely well at the start. Phil Salt and Dawid Malan had it easy as both of them got to their centuries. Of the two, Salt was dangerous as he struck at a strike rate of 131. It was Malan’s stability at the other end that helped the youngster. Malan, too, on his part, hit three sixes in his knock. One of his big hits landed amidst the trees and the play had to be halted to get the ball.

After Malan and Salt got out, Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone entered the T20 mode. While Buttler made 162 runs from just 70 deliveries, his partner got 66 runs in only 22 balls. England finished the innings at 498-4, just two short of 500 runs. With the ball, most English bowlers contributed with wickets as they cruised to a comfortable win.
