3 players whom Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) might release before next IPL

Lucknow Super Giants have played only two IPL seasons so far and have qualified to the playoffs both times

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are one of the newest teams in the IPL, but in two out of the two seasons that they have played so far, they have qualified to the playoffs both times.

This season, LSG lost the services of their regular captain KL Rahul in the middle of the season as well, but they still managed to qualify to the playoffs with the stand-in skipper Krunal Pandya in charge.

However, from here onwards, the Lucknow Super Giants would like to further improve their squad and try and have a shot at the IPL title.

Here are the 3 players Lucknow Super Giants might release before next IPL –

Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda was one of the most talked about T20 players in India a year ago because of his ability to hit sixes against spinners and his ability to bowl decent off spin as well. But IPL 2023 was probably one of the worst IPL seasons Hooda ever had, as he repeatedly failed with the bat right through the season.

LSG played Hooda for the first few games, but after his form didn’t improve, the right hander was dropped from the playing XI. Although he was later brought back again into the XI again, but to no avail as he didn’t get going at any stage. It might be tough for Hooda to retain his spot in the LSG squad next season.

Amit Mishra

Although Amit Mishra didn’t really bowl badly for Lucknow in IPL 2023, but it was quite clear in the games that he played that his fitness was not up to the mark. Ravi Bishnoi, the young leg spinner, looked far more impressive than Mishra.

This might turn out to be Mishra’s last IPL season, as Lucknow might release him before next mini auction and he might not find a buyer in the next auction.

Avesh Khan

It was not too long ago that Avesh Khan was a part of the Indian white ball squad, but he has proven to be another Indian youngster whose form has gone downhill in the last few months and towards the end of IPL 2023, Avesh was not even the first choice pick for LSG.

In the eliminator that LSG played against Mumbai Indians last night, Mohsin Khan, Yash Thakur and Navin ul Haq were their first choice picks in the seam department and Avesh was on the bench. One shouldn’t be surprised if LSG doesn’t renew Avesh’s contract before next mini auction.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
