“T20 World Cup is not as big a tournament as ODI World Cup,” Tamim Iqbal doesn’t think future of ODI cricket is under threat

Some of the former international players have recently voiced their opinion on ODI cricket and have said that the 50-over format should be removed completely from ICC's FTP

There might be a lot of discussions and debates going on about the future of ODI cricket at the moment and some of the former players might be of the opinion that the ODIs should be removed from ICC’s Future Tour Programme (FTP) completely, but the Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal doesn’t have the same opinion.

Tamim Iqbal was talking to the media yesterday ahead of the start of the ODI series against Zimbabwe and when he was asked if the ODI format of the game is still as relevant in modern-day cricket as it once was, Tamim said that he definitely thinks so and not just him, but the governing body of the game ICC itself has recently made it clear that they still give a lot of importance to the ODI format.

Under the captaincy of Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh has won two ODI series in away countries this year, as they first beat South Africa in South Africa by 2-1 and then they clean swept West Indies in their own backyard by 3-0 only weeks ago.

Tamim Iqbal is looking forward to next year’s ODI World Cup in India

While Bangladesh has been struggling a little bit in test cricket and T20I cricket while playing away from home, their ODI team has been shaping up very well and they are in a position where they might cause a couple of upsets against the big teams in the next year’s ODI World Cup in India because the Bangladesh players are quite used to playing on the kind of pitches that will be on offer in India during the World Cup.

Tamim himself is looking forward to the next year’s World Cup and he also stated that among all the tournaments that ICC organizes at the global level, ODI World Cup is still the biggest tournament and the T20 World Cup is not as big as ODI World Cup yet.

I write a bit on cricket and I am more interested in technical and tactical side of the game, rather than bravado.
