The Indian veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has picked his team of the tournament from the super 12 round of the T20 World Cup 2021 and has appointed Babar Azam the captain of the team, which is not really a surprise as Pakistan has won 5 out of their 5 super 12 games under the captaincy of Babar.
Dinesh Karthik actually thinks that it’s Eoin Morgan who has been the best captain in the World Cup so far, but his contribution with the bat for England hasn’t been enough for him to find a place in the team of the tournament.
“Would have ideally liked Morgan as he has been the best captain for me, but has not done enough as a batter. So, I went for Azam,” Karthik said while speaking on Cricbuzz.
England has also won 4 out of their 5 super 12 games in the T20 World Cup so far, but they have done that despite losing a lot of their players to injuries. Morgan hasn’t been quite at his best as a batsman but has been absolutely spot on with his captaincy moves.
A couple of surprising decisions that Dinesh Karthik has made while picking his team for the tournament is that he has not gone with Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali, two of the best finishers in the tournament so far.
Malik and Asif might not have been at the top positions among the leading run-scorers, but whenever they have been required in tense situations by Pakistan, they have done the job for the team.
Leaving Malik and Asif out, Karthik has gone with Shakib Al Hasan, who didn’t quite score a heap of ruins, but he was very useful for Bangladesh again as an all-round package.
Dinesh Karthik picked Jasprit Bumrah over Haris Rauf in his team
Karthik made a surprise pick in the bowling department as well, as he left the Pakistani speedster, Haris Rauf, out and picked Jasprit Bumrah.
Bumrah is undoubtedly one of the best white-ball bowlers in the world at the moment, but Rauf’s performance in big games in the T20 World Cup 2021 so far have been better than that of Bumrah.
Here is Karthik’s team of the tournament –
Babar Azam (C), Jos Buttler, Charith Asalanka, Rassie van der Dussen, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Wanindu Hasaranga, Adam Zampa, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Shaheen Afridi
