T20 World Cup 2021: Babar Azam Creates A Special Record As Captain

Pakistan cricket team Babar Azam has become the first skipper in ICC T20 World Cup history to score three half-centuries in a single edition of the ICC T20 World Cup tournament. The International Cricket Council organized the inaugural T20 World Cup competition, with South Africa playing host to the mega event. The Indian cricket team had captured the title in the ICC T20 World Cup 2007.

There have been five more T20 World Cups after the year 2007, but none of the team captains could play with such consistency as the current Pakistan cricket team skipper Babar Azam. The right-handed batter has been unstoppable in the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 so far. He started the tournament with a half-century against the Indian cricket team.

Babar Azam continued his fine form against other teams in the Super 12 stage

The Pakistan captain could not play a big innings against the New Zealand cricket team at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, but he bounced back in style with back-to-back 50+ scores against the Afghanistan cricket team and the Namibia cricket team. Babar first played a match-winning knock of 51 runs against the Afghanistan cricket team and followed it up with a 70-run inning against debutants Namibia.

After completing his half-century versus the Namibian side, Babar Azam entered the record books, becoming the first captain in ICC T20 World Cup history to record three half-centuries in the same edition of the mega event.

As a team, as a captain, we have full confidence: Pakistan captain confident before the semifinals

Pakistan became the first team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals by defeating the Namibian cricket team in their last match. It will be interesting to see which team from Group 1 faces the Men in Green in the knockout stage. At the moment, it seems like fans will witness a match between Pakistan and Australia/South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2021 semifinals. During the post-match presentation of the match against the Namibian cricket team, Pakistan captain Babar Azam was quoted as saying:

“You need to get better if you need to win matches continuously and win the tournament. As a team, as a captain, we have full confidence. We will continue this and will go in well planned into the semifinal.”
