IPL 2023 Auctions are happening right now in Kochi. With a bid of INR 18.5 Cr, Punjab Kings hired the services of Sam Curran. The English all-rounder became the most expensive player at IPL Auctions. Here, we take a look at how Twitter reacted as Sam Curran becomes the most expensive player in IPL Auctions.
Sam Curran becomes the most expensive player in IPL Auctions
It was expected that Curran would go for a big amount at the auctions. The only thing left was to find out who would hire the young English all-rounder. In the beginning, RCB and MI were involved in the war for the player. Later, Rajasthan Royals bid until INR 13 Cr. After Punjab Kings entered the race, thanks to their big purse, despite the opposition by LSG, CSK and MI, they got hold of Curran’s services.
Till now, no player has been sold for as high as what Sam Curran has been sold for. While Chris Morris’ record was broken with ease, Currant, at the moment, is also the highest-paid player in the history of the competition. Punjab Kings now have a solid pace attack and would expect Curran to win the title for them.
Twitter reacts to Curran’s final bid price
Sam Curran has done well in the IPL before. He was the Player of the Tournament in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Most teams also needed an all-rounder. Moreover, Sam Curran is a youngster and hence, the stakes were high for him. As expected, most of the teams were involved in the race for the cricketer. In the end, PBKS won the bid for the player. Interestingly, the player was part of the franchise before. In fact, he made his IPL debut for them. It now needs to be seen how he would perform for the team in IPL 2023 and beyond:

Harry Brook and Sam Curran should also thank @rajasthanroyals for those mind-boggling sums they fetched at the #IPLAuctions. Rajasthan took that bidding to Rs.13cr for both of them before backing out. #SamCurran #HarryBrook

Sam Curran goes for 18.50 crores to PBKS. Way too many for his value actually. His bowling will be cannon fodder on true Mohali pitch.
Calling this right now – this is going to be one of the most disastrous buy in IPL history.

Sam Curran – 18.50 crores – a bit too much. Doesn't matter how good he is, he's not worth that much money anyway.#IPL2023Auction
